The spawn protection is alright in vanilla arena servers because you don't spawn with guns but in the sandbox servers, the spawn protection is just an annoyance especially if you're using lower ammo count weapons such as the scalar. You would spawn in next to 2 or 3 people and light them up, expecting to kill them but instead using your entire magazine and sitting there with your pants down when the spawn protection runs out.
